5 Minute Quarantine Activities to Boost Vitamin D Levels


This episode is about how the 2020 Quarantine may have a negative effect on your Vitamin D levels.  


One of the main ways that Corey and LaQuita have been getting a fair dose of sunshine as well as connecting with members of Atumpan Dance Theatre is at the weekly 757 Unity Drum Circle in Hampton at the FOOT Community Garden 1320 LaSalle Ave. The event is free and open to the public and is shared through social spaces as well as Atumpan's internal calendar for members to receive calendar and email notifications. The weekly event was recently featured on the Hampton Roads Show for all to attend.


For some, following a strict “shelter in place” policy of staying inside may reduce your bodies Vitamin D levels, affecting your bone health and your body’s ability to fight cancer.  Corey, who has been blind since the age of 19, takes the wheel With LaQuita Marie serving as his GPS.  Watch the family dodge a couple of colossal collisions while sharing how they get the most out of the “sunshine vitamin.”  Come along for the ride with the blind guy and his wife where you will:


1.      Meet a Special Guest Rider:  LaQuita Marie and her children are crazy to ride along in a vehicle driven by a blind person like Corey. Now they’ve roped another member of the family, LaQuita Marie's mother, dubbed “The Snack Fairy,” into their highway hijinks.

2.       Get a Crash Course on Vitamin D Filled Foods:  Whether you’re lactose intolerant or living a plant based lifestyle, Vitamin D rich dairy based foods (milk, cheese, yogurt, etc.) might not be part of your daily diet.  Never fear!  Dairy free milk options that are Vitamin D fortified like soymilk, almondmilk, cashewmilk, oatmilk, hempmilk, and a friendly fungus can provide that Vitamin D boost.

3.       Rise and Shine:  Vitamin D isn’t called the “sunshine vitamin” for nothing.  Corey, LaQuita Marie, and their mother-in-law/mama will share simple tips on how they maximize their exposure to natural sunlight so that even the most melanin rich people can get the most out of the Vitamin D in their bodies.
