WHAT WE DO AND WHY...
Corey and LaQuita Marie Staten are founders of Atumpan (The Talking Drums) Edutainment. Corey lost his ability to see at the age of 19 due to illness. Corey attended Old Dominion University and graduated summa cum laude. University lectures were less interesting without being able to see video clips and power point presentations. During his university studies, Corey and his wife (a pediatric nurse), formed Atumpan as a way to provide interactive education with Atumpan Ed! and Atumpan Live! Interactive education includes hands on engagement for audiences with repetition and teambuilding to create implicit learning. Later, they expanded to add a dance theatre: an academy for others to learn world music, folklore, and dance.
